It’s quite sad that I live in this little ol town named Vallejo in the sunshine state of California and it’s going bankrupt, if not already. Apparently, the meeting is still debating the issue of whether to file for bankruptcy or some other option. Interesting how we don’t even know what that other option is. According to the news, Vallejo would be the largest town in California to file for bankruptcy. That is just plain ridiculous.
And what I can’t understand – How in the world did we get to this point? I want to know who is responsible for mis-managing the funds. Where did the money go and what did it get spent on? The school systems certainly aren’t seeing any funds and standard services provided by the Police, Firefighters, etc have been cut.
Just three months ago, when I discovered my car had been broken into. Glass was shattered, and several items from the back seat taken. Now granted, it wasn’t an emergency, but I called 911 cause that’s the only number I know to call. Besides, my parents told me to call 911 too! Once pushing a button indicating it was not an emergency, after several minutes I was finally connected to the local Vallejo Police Department. Excitedly telling my story and how I was very careful not to touch or move anything at the crime scene and would wait for them to arrive I was told “Lady, this is not tv. We will send out some paperwork, contact your insurance company and maybe they’ll reimburse you for damages.” Can you believe that?!
The tragic part in all of this is that Vallejo is a pretty cool town with lots of little nooks and crannies. Oh sure, I rag on this town all the time – no bookstore, everything closes at 7 pm, nothing to do, blah blah blah. But truth be told, there are some pretty neat things in Vallejo. Take for example, the hot dog shop Gumbahs on Tennesse Street and the best pizza parlor Napoli’s right next door – delicious food.
Just the other day, I took a jog/stroll though a trail near the Wardlaw Dog and Skate Park. I’ve walked this trail since I was in elementary school, but its only in my later years that I’ve come to appreciate the distinct beauty preserved in this secluded nature oasis. Not only is it a relaxing and peaceful walk for all ages, but but it makes the perfect short journey for my camera’s eye…again and again!
Take a look at some of the pictures I captured recently just the other day!
