So I’m happy to share that I sold my first photograph in a Santa Rosa, CA Art Gallery! I have yet to know what fortunate soul (LOL) bought such said photography masterpiece, but they shall forever hold the distinction of being the first. Already I am clearing space in my office to display a framed copy of the check.
All artists received an email indicating that all unsold work needed to be picked up. Imagine my surprise in receivng a second email to disregard the first, for my work had been sold and to look forward to my check in 3 to 4 weeks. Such a great feeling and boost of confidence which has spurred me on to have my work displayed at other galleries and have a booth setup at a festival coming up later this month in the ever popular Napa Valley. Stay tuned for details…
This marks an official beginning into the world of commercial photography and the end of another era. For any other photographers and/or artists out there, like me, you have probably given away works of art as gifts. Oh an anniversary here, wedding gift there, or a friend who appreciates your work….the list goes on. Of course I was happy to give away such photographs as gifts. Why it gives me no better pleasure than to watch a friend or family member smile in delight over a favorite photograph.
However…an artist has to make a living right? You wouldn’t me out on the streets, living in the park, with only my camera as comfort? Of course not! And thus, it gives me great pleasure and sadness to announce “Drum roll please…From this moment forward – “NO MORE FREEBIES”.
No more freebies?! I never received any freebies. So, I think I should get at least one. Besides, you have a job (‘don’t you just love your life?’), so you won’t be livin’ on the streets and in a park if you give me a freebie
Anyways, congratualtions! You are doing something I’ve wanted to do for a long time but with no motivation (too much I gotta handle in my life already). Maybe you’ll give me that motivation.
You are too funny! And hey – you just had a freebie Ms. VIP – greedy! And yes, I love doing photography. There’s something very calming and fascinating about capturing someone’s look, mood or a glimpse of nature gleaming in sunlight or cowering under the clouds. It never fails to bring a smile to my face or that of others! Thanks for the love.
Hey – I have a project that maybe you can help me with. This is something that I’ve envisioned for sometime now. It will help you to build on your portfolio and it will help me to do something creative for once in my life. I’ll explain in more detail the next time I see you…Saturday maybe?
